Tonkunst macht Schule

This commemorative book celebrates the 150-year history of the Basler Musikschule – the primogenitor of the Basel Academy of Music. Edited by Martina Wohltat, the publication is a collection of essays which not only address some of the key aspects and major talking points regarding music education and musical performance, but also look back on the artists and figures who have helped make Leonhardstrasse 3 the preeminent school of music it is today. Generations of Basel schoolchildren have also passed through its doors, whether to learn an instrument or to perform with the Academy’s orchestras and choirs. The publication is therefore a celebration of the people and events that have forged the reputation and allure of this unique institution.
